since i had the distinct joy + honour of meeting maria + seeing her play. she was handing out flyers @ last year's power to the peaceful show for a show that she was playing the following night @ a coffee shop on the haight (the name of which completely escapes me). i remember an brief blip of electricity when i accept'd the flyer. reading the flyer as i ascend'd the stairs i instantly recognized her name - this was the same maria mango my friend brian had been so eager to play for me in his van many months prior ('round the beginning of the year). from his b.c. travelings, to our time together in the canadian rockies (canmore), to my coming down to san francisco - what strange + wonderful roads of eventual connectivity. maria's show was a wonderful capping to my 2 days in frisco, fill'd w/ amazing music (xavier rudd, john butler trio, gift of gab, string cheese incident, michael franti + spearhead, dave matthews band f/ carlos santana + maria - the icing on the cake). a gentle cozy show that felt very much like sharing (especially w/ folks singing along), follow'd by a wonderful meeting + exchange - these are the closing memories i have of san francisco. i've since been waiting the chance for our paths to cross again.
